Snow Falling on Cedars (1999)

Mystery/Drama - in 1954 on a small island in the Pacific Northwest, a Japanese-American fisherman is on trial for murder. Prejudice permeates the town as many were killed by the Japanese in World War II. Interwoven with the intense courtroom scenes is a romance between an American boy and a Japanese girl. The photography is exquisite, the acting fine. The story does take its time to unfold, but it has a lot to say. 128 min.
